About

The New York Yoga Teacher Training Intensive is a comprehensive introduction to the art and science of conducting a yoga class. Our program is distinctive in the amount of time devoted to intensive practice and analysis of the postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that link them. Our instructors come from a broad background of styles representing lineages derived from the father of modern yoga teachers Krishnamacharya. Our focus is on a vinyasa (flow) style of practice. In our program the bulk of classroom time will be spent on techniques of practice, teaching and adjusting postures and breath. Intensives on anatomy, classroom safety and sequencing as well as the use of music and text will help to prepare aspiring teachers for real classroom situations. Students will be expected to complete reading and independent study assignments to begin the process of understanding the philosophy and literature of yoga and how it can be applied to living and teaching in 21st century America. Developing a strong and consistent personal practice will be emphasized as the basis for beginning to instruct others. Students who graduate this program will feel confident to begin teaching at a basic & intermediate level.

The BEST part about our 200 Hour Teacher Training is that you will actually be teaching at one of our locations after you graduate. We offer community classes all week to give our recent graduates or "Stars of The Future" the experience of teaching a real class. Not only will it allow you to sequence your own class, pick your music, make hands on adjustments, see all types of bodies, but it is amazing to be able to put teaching on your resume right away!

New York Yoga was founded in 2002 to make all types of Yoga accessible for all types of people. As the first Yoga studio to come to Manhattan's Upper East Side we choose a ground floor location so it would be convenient and accessible; one could walk in the door and experience a beautiful environment with a friendly staff. Most yoga studios in NYC were downtown in lofts and for the older professional residing uptown, housewife, lawyer, doctors, we believed needed a different type of experience. Our philosophy was to offer all the elements of yoga in a way that different types of people could embrace. New York Yoga is a multi-disciplinary studio with vinyasa as our featured style of yoga. We offer a spiritual element but we do not identify with any particular religion. With over 100 classes and specialty workshops every week, New York Yoga makes yoga accessible to all.

The New York Yoga Center teaches a vinyasa flow style that incorporates aspects of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga practices. Classes flow through five general stages, warm up (sun salutations), standing poses, balancing poses, seated poses and cool down poses (inversions and savasana). Within this framework all types of postures can be incorporated, including backbends, twists and bindings. Instruction in the practices of pranayama, drishti, meditation and philosophy are interwoven in the textures of the flow practice. Readings, Sanskrit chants, and music are incorporated to enhance the yoga experience and create a space for personal transformation and spiritual development. Our instructors come from a broad background of styles representing lineages derived from the father of modern yoga teachers Krishnamacharya.
